SUMMARY:Artist Talk - Gulf Streams Live: Rooted in Listening
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our latest Artist Talk\, drawing on the multidisciplinary exhibition Gulf Streams: Atchafalaya Remixed\, plus a celebration on the plaza featuring live music by Palmetto\, a Trey Boudreaux experimental music project. \n  \nArtist Talk\nThis program brings together a musician\, artist\, and folklorist whose practices are each rooted in regional fieldwork – listening to\, documenting\, and remixing the world around them.  \nThough their fields differ\, each panelist leans into listening as a way of understanding place. The conversation will move through the ways each panelist hears\, interprets\, and transforms what they encounter – from capturing and composing with ambient sound\, to crafting visual narratives through documentary photography and film\, to documenting oral histories and Louisiana folklife.\n  \nPanelists include:   \n\nDr. Gwendolyn von Einsiedel\, Moderator\, Gulf Streams’ Guest Curator\, Tommy Comeaux Endowed Chair of Traditional Music at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette  \n\n\nOlivia Luz Perillo\, Multidisciplinary Visual Artist \n\n\nDanny Devillier\, Musician\, Composer\, and Educator \n\n\nMaria Zeringue\, Director\, Louisiana Folklife Program\n \n\nDetails:  \n\n5 p.m. Doors open\, cash bar opens \n\n\n5:30-6:30 p.m. Panel Discussion  \n\n\n6:30-8:00 p.m. Live music on the plaza\, featuring Palmetto\, a Trey Boudreaux experimental music project.  \n \n\nSummer programming is presented by Dr. Jay Culotta and Kiki Frayard. \nMembers\, UL students\, faculty and staff are free; Public entrance with museum admission.  \n

DESCRIPTION:Join us on Friday\, March 6th for a special preview of Spring Awake\, a new season of exhibitions and programming examining the legacy of Pop Art\, presented by the Hilliard Society. \nThe evening brings together leading feature in pop art movement Andy Warhol from the museum’s permanent collection and contemporary artist Rachel Libeskind alongside the immersive installation Nervescape XI by Hrafnhildur Arnardóttir / Shoplifter\, currently on view. \nEntrance includes open bar by Ton’s Downtown\, music\, and festivities inspired by Warhol’s infamous parties of the 1960s and 1970s.
